Default Error in burning with Img Burn; please help.

I've been ripping and burning with DVDShrink and DVD Decrypter/Image Burn for years now with no problems. Out of nowhere, two days ago, I started getting errors from Image Burn.

Here is a screen shot of the error:

Information:

I have a Sony DRX-710UL external. It is maybe a year and a half or so old. No problems with it burning CD-R's and CD-RW's -- only DVD media.

I'm using Memorex media, which is the same kind that I always use. In fact, I've burned at least 20 discs so far from this exact spool. Burn speed is not an issue.

Firmware and flash patch are updated. Double checked.

I have AnyDvd turned off.

I've wiped and reinstalled both Image Burn and Shrink. No change.

No spyware or other problems on my machine; thoroughly scanned.

This problem started happening after I attempted to back up an already ripped/burned disc (X-Men 3). I've also tried other discs from my collection (originals) and I get the same result.

Please help.

I changed ASPI -- no change

Basically, followed every other suggestion found on this site too.

Any ideas, folks?

Also, tried numerous other programs for ripping. The error always occurs in Decrypter or Shrink when trying to actually burn the ISO file to the blank media.

Post the burn log please. What media are you using? If not Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens, switch.

If you have XP, use SPTI.

And by the way, I have Decrypter set to SPTI.

Also, re: Media. Memorex. It isn't the media, though. I've burned about 20 discs from this spool without any problems. Actually, I've never had any issues whatsoever until last week -- this error came from nowhere.

Much appreciated.

I suspect that if you read the Golden Rules of Burning, you might have noticed these were sh1t. Change your media.

I read it, but as I stated earlier, I've used at least 20 of these (memorex) already from the same spool. Is there something from that log that is telling you for certain that it is the media? I mean, I'll be more than happy to try another type, but it seems as though the other people who have had similar problems did the same with the same negative result.

try another burn from deeper into the spindle, with memorex you might have 5 or 10 bad disks in a row, you were lucky to get 20 of those to work.

A burner that's a 1 1/2 years old may be worn out, just because it burns cd's means nothing.

And just because you've burnt 20 doesn't mean they're good burns.

They could have been RIGHT on the edge of failing too. A gentle nudge and now they're all failing. That's just what happens when you use duff media.

Is it common for a good quality Sony external to go so quickly? Granted I've been using it to burn 3 discs a week for about 1.5 years...still seems unlikely.

Can you pop the burner into an IDE channel and not on your firewire? External burners are susceptible to greater errors.

Also, and I'm sure this is unrelated, the burn type should be DAO and not SAO.

I had sony 720UL, not very good burner but good scanner, look for nec 3550A or Benq 1640/1650/1655 if you can find it may last longer

Ah, I'm ahead of you -- I just switched to USB to see if that makes a difference. Also, I'm not sure how to differentiate between DAO and SAO. Please advise.
