Default most reliable way to store a large file?

Let's say I have a file that is around 7GB and I wanted to store it in case my HD goes bad or I accidentally delete it. What would you say is the most reliable way? Just use Build Mode to burn a udf disc with the file on it? Split it with HjSplit or another splitter and store on a couple of DVD5 blanks? Other?

I'm just wondering how this DL stuff works with data as opposed to a video burn.

In another case say the file was too big to fit on a singe DL disc. What splitters will put Humpty Dumpty together again exactly in original condition?

I have to say that none of the optical formats are really reliable enough.

An NAS device with raid is the best option, as even if one of the discs keels over your data is safe.

You could also burn it to DVD, copy to USB memory drive, store it online etc etc.

In general the more places you have it the less likely you are to lose it.

Thanks for the reply. After I thought about it I guess the best way for multiple DVD storage of super large files would probably be WinRar with redundant Par2 recovery sets. But you're right. For quick storage something HD based is the best.

It might be fun to experiment with WinRar just to see how painful it would be to save like a 22 GB file on DVDs. Probably not something I'd want to do all the time.
