Unhappy Power Calibration Error

Hi,

I have read in this forum that Power Calibration Error occurs usually when the DVD writer does not recognize the particular brand of DVD disc and even after trying to write in the small rewritable area it can not find the optimal burning setting. Then how come my Matsheta DVD writer which was burning OK these Ritek DVD+R discs, started giving this error with the remaining discs of the same batch?

The corresponding ImgBurn log is attached for kind pursual--

Thanks Blutach (and others) for all your time and helping hand to newbies like me.

I had searched for an updated firmware before putting this thread up and had reached the same page as you recommended but (1) clicking on the link on the page gets you back to the same page, no file gets downloaded (am I doing something wrong?); (2) the firmware is for drives in Sony laptops not those in Toshiba laptops.

Also, if a drive has worked fine with the same batch disc before, how come it is giving an error now?

Before I started copying DVDs, I had read and followed your golden rules ---- Thanks for them too.

Wasted another Verbatim DL +R disc though I have used more than 40 discs with no trouble so far until recently. The ImgBurn log is as under. Any ideas??? BADLY NEED HELP. THANKS.

I would go for it tosh, sony or whatever, the matsh1ta is a poor drive, many have returned on warranty, the way you're going thru blanks.

Default What has gone wrong?

I tried the Sony firmware for the matsh1ta drive on my Toshiba laptop. I did not work as it said wrong drive.

So from 100% success with Verbatim DL media, I am down to 50% though I have made no change to my laptop. What could have gone wrong and where? Any thoughts from you gurus out there???

From what I have googled those matsh!ta drives are lemons, few work right
when new, those that do don't hold up well, very poor support from toshiba also. RMA if on warranty, otherwise save it for a reader and get a good external burner.

Thanks Chewy.

The laptop is still within the 6 month return policy of Sam's club, so that's where it is going back to.

In the meantime, I am planning to buy a NEC 3550 for my desktop. Seems highly recommended by many.

Thanks again!
