Media looks dodgy, but make the firmware upgrade that chewy linked you to and see if there is any improvement.

Throw the media out. Buy Verbatims and your life will be easier. Slow your burns down, too. Check DMA.

Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

I agree,slow down the burns,try 4-8x,not a good habit to use MAX
no matter what speed media you use..

I 22:38:31 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: CMC MAG. AE1) (Speeds: 2x)

max will only do that speed with the firmware

until the firmware is upgraded max will not have any effect

since the media is 8X it's pretty obvious the firmware does not support those blanks and that would be the first and foremost problem I would address

Hi folks
--flashed the drive and it burned to 100%
--although came up with some errors on the final part of verifying the disc!
--haven't viewed the disc yet so don't know if/what the prob will be!
--going to get some better media at the weekend and try again
Thanks again

If the verification fails you may be able to watch the disc just fine, but will typically have difficulty reripping the copy.
