Default Convertiting MPEG-1 to a smaller format

I have a MPEG-1 video that is 96.5MB. It's huge! I want to post it on youtube but it just takes too long and then after hours of waiting it doesn't even work. If there is any FREE way i can convert this file to a smaller format please tell me.

You should only use genuine Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media. Many thanks to for their supply and great service.
