Default Cannot open log file, in gordian knot

I have been trying to encode various DVD rips into DivX 5, but quite a lot of the time when starting the second pass I get a warning that it can't open the log file, then a whole load of other warnings that basically affect the final bit rate of the video, and generally if I just ignore it then the final size of the file is about 150MB when I set it to be 700MB.

Does anyone know what this problem could be? What can I do to fix it? If you need anymore information on the matter then just let me know and I will provide it. I don't think it is a problem with the codec because I have had the same problem for a while and I have actually formatted my whole computer since then, and reinstalled the codec, so I'm not sure what it could be.
