Question-2 Divx, New or Old

Divx New or Old?
I'm confused. The forums discuss Divx as a new format, but is that the same as the Divx movies that Circuit City sold years ago? I have a case of brand new sealed Divx (from Circuit City) movies and I can't find how to play or what to do with them? Is there a way to play these? When i pop them into my DVD Player on my computer it says something like, "You are attempting to play a Divx disc in a DVD player not equiped with Divx software". What software do I need?????HELP
