is it possible to get subtitles optional into the divx file?
I normally dont want them, but @ school subtitles would be gr8t... |

Only if you store the subtitles in a seperate textfile and use a special player like MicroDVD that supports optional subtitles.

You can't have optional subtitles that are encoded into the avi file. If want optional subs you have to use some extra files, for DVD ripping I think vobsub is the best system for this. There is a guide on this at www.doom9.org
