Default skipping and ultimately can not read disc

ok so i downloaded pulp fiction.... i converted the divx into dvd files using the program dvdsanta..which took about 2 hours.... i burned with nero and everything seemed fine.. burn completed succesfully
popped it in stand alone worked fine until about 13 minutes into movie some skipping occurd ad it just started going to different parts of the movie... came to my ps2 it worked ok til later same thing happend and it just stopped saying error reading disc ........ could it be the program i used or can something like this happen when too much cpu% is being taken up whihc causes comp to lag therfore creating these skips in the disc while in the burning process???
