Default Splitting video file

I have several movies on my hard drive but i am unable to put them on a cd because they are too large. I am in need of some software that will allow me to split a large movie file. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks

What format(s) are the movies (.AVI, DivX-compressed .AVI, Mpeg1, Mpeg2, .Mov, etc.)?

For avi-files you can use every avi-editor. I use virtualDUB or nandub.
