Default Subtitles being out of sync with the audio.

Howdy. I've just begun tinkering with adding subtitles to my movie files. I followed the step-by-step "Permanent Subtitles Guide" on DivXLand, and all appears to work fine, except for one rather critical detail -- the subtitles are out of sync with the audio. Specifically, the subtitles are roughly 5 seconds ahead of the dialogue. I've made multiple attempts using multiple types of Dvix and Xvid codecs, but the result is always the same.

If anyone can offer any advice on how to correct this problem, I'd be much obliged.

I am having the exact same problem, after going through that guide step by step. I wish someone would respond and help me out with this. I've tried everything over the past couple of weeks, and can't figure out what I need to do to get the audio and video in sync.

The problem is caused by the VBR audio, you must convert it as explained in the Troubleshooting guide to avoid that problem, and THEN embed the subtitles.
