DVD-R burners are more popular, and are used more often and more compatible in dvd-players. According to PCWORLD magazine, only about 30% of all players can read dvd+r.
As for the price, check out for prices, theyre in american pricing though...

i would say go with a pioneer burner, probably the a05 which supports 4x dvd-r burning, well worth spending the extra money
at least for the future since it can burn a dvd-r from ur comp in about 15 min

Default philips dvd228

Although dvd-r/rw may be more popular at the moment, it is quickly becoming a thing of the past with the new dvd+r alliance of hp/philips etc bringing out the new format. Most newer standalone players will play dvd+. I have a daewoo 2000 not such a new player but works with +r/rw.
So although dvd-r/rw are very cheap disk around 39p in the UK
I'd seriously look at the newer format, disks now are around ú1.10 up for dvd+r so give it 12 months and hopefully prices will come down. Hope i've been some help
