DVD Shrink is basically for backing up complete disks or taking out certain streams. You require an authoring application for full scale editing. You would however need I think to decrypt your DVD-R onto your hard drive first.
I'm not familiar with the Sony standalone recorder but there have been threads on the Panasonic and Philips with reference to disk readability on the PC.

Readability is great , it's the thing about removing segmants from the disk. I have tried DVD Lab but cant find away with that.

This DVD was created using a settop DVD recorder. It is not encrypted!

"TMPGEnc DVD Author" (different than "TMPGEnc") will EASILY allow you to edit your homebrewn DVD...

DVDShrink will do just fine, read this to see what you are missing:

Using DVDShrink as a Cutter

Some players are a little slow when jumping from one VTS to another so if after burning a test RW you have that problem, you can either join the VOBs as mentioned in that thread or drag the lot into DVDLab and let it re-compile the lot for you.
