Default Maximum bitrate for DVD-compliant MPEG-1

I've been encoding some AVI files to MPEG-1 to author onto a DVD. The resolution of the AVIs don't warrant using MPEG-2.

I've been sticking to the standard bitrate of 1150, but as some of the AVIs have a higher bitrate, I've upped the bitrate in TMPGEnc when I've encoded.

TMPGEnc DVD Author hasn't complained about these higher-bitrate MPEG-1s, and it's usually very fussy about compliancy.

So, what bitrate would I be safe using? And also, is it worth me encoding the MPEG-1 at a bitrate which equals the bitrate of the original AVI? Would I notice any difference in quality?

Yes - If TMPGEnc DVD Author will accept it, do it...

Thanks for the reply. TDA is normally fussy, like I said, so I'll up the bitrate.

It's been a while since I used MPEG1 for DVD, but there IS a maximum bitrate for MPEG 1 for DVD, and it's approximately 1750kbps (the exact figure eludes my memory).
