MenuShrink version 2.4 - utility for shrinking DVD motion menus to still frames
MenuShrink Version 2.0 is here!
EDIT: And now for Version 2.2! See here
EDIT: And now for Version 2.4! See

MenuShrink is a small application that turns large motion menus into tiny still
menus with or without audio. Menus can usually be shrunk down to 5% to 10% of
their original size, while keeping full functionality.

Version 2.0 has the following main new features:
  • New Preview mode allows you to visually select which image to use in each menu.
  • The output DVD are more compliant than before. The remaining problems with highlights not showing on some DVD players have been fixed.
  • Cells with "non-functional" buttons are now skipped.
  • There's an new panel to set the path to your favorite apps.
along with many improvements and bug fixes.
Get the new version at the usual place:

Here's the change log.

  • Added selection with video preview for the still frame.
  • MenuShrink remembers which frames were manually selected for the last processed DVD.
  • MenuShrink can reload the last opened DVD.
  • Added tool buttons and a path panel to set them up.
  • Added support for messages in french.
  • Added better command-line support. Pass video_ts.ifo and you open the full DVD. Pass vts_01_0.vob and only that VTS is marked for processing.
  • If the VTSM_C_ADT table isn't correct to begin with, MenuShrink no longer crash.
  • The VTS selection panel has been improved.
  • MenuShrink now produces more compliant single-VOBU cells in no-audio mode.
  • In audio mode, the audio is no longer clipped when the buttons appear late in the menu.
  • MenuShrink now picks the smallest frame for transition clips (menu intros/outros).
  • MenuShrink now squashes and attempts to skip cells that have non-functional buttons (either tiny buttons, or buttons that all have NOP commands).
Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug in the pack identification routine that caused an audio pack to be mistaken for a navpack in Godzilla!!!
  • Fixed a problems with tools when the path to the DVD folder had spaces in it.
  • Occasional highlight delay has been fixed.
  • The few remaining problems with highlights not showing on some DVD and some players have been ironed out.

Here's the thread for version 1.0.

I read your MS 2.0 post on videohelp.

DVD-Rebuilder does not have a command line argument and the program just opens.

Argh! Can't believe it! Well, I guess the users will have to lobby the author to add that... ;)

Hi all :)

Congrats on the release of MS2.0 jean!

I suppose I had better christen it with a nice big MenuShrink.....

This will put you in 6th position, right after godzilla! Not too bad, not too bad!!!

Mig$sy, did you notice (from the log you sent) that this DVD has VTSM_C_ADT problems in 2 VTS?! I wonder what's up with that.

Can you give me the DVD title and the region?
EDIT: Never mind, I just noticed it was in the title! :smashead:

nwg 6 Apr 2005 06:12 AM

It looks like Johnny English region 2. I wouldn't have thought a DVD like that would have such a big menu.

Prob unreferenced material in VMG, which I consider "cheating" on the MS stats (especially if I can't use it and it bumps me down the lists!).

Of course, if such stuff is running boy type video, the shrinking is a rather neat way around this protection.

Shrink is having problems opening the MS files...

IFO problems.....?

blutach 6 Apr 2005 08:02 AM

Try mock strip again migsy.

Can you attach your log as a txt file for analysis?

PS. I'm sure that invalid data is the subject of a DVD Shrink FAQ. Please click on your sig (or that of nwg) ;)

Mig$y 6 Apr 2005 08:04 AM

The log is in my first post mate....

I'll do a little Mock strip...

Edit - Cheeky bugger....

blutach 6 Apr 2005 08:06 AM

So I see. Same error msg as before. Hopefully, fix is same.

EDIT: Mock strip both VMGM and VTSM 1, OK.

P.S. You sig is unclickable onable. So, I do apologise.

After mockstripping menu/extras...

That's one of the VTSM_C_ADT problems gone.

blutach 6 Apr 2005 08:38 AM

Did you mock strip VTSM1, as well as VMGM?
