Smile Why can't Nero or CD Creator just be patched to allow DVD copying?

When I attempt a DVD copy the programs say that the DVD is copy protected and they cannot proceed. What and where is the protection? Why can't the copy program Nero/East CD creator be patched to ignore the copy protection flag? That would seem easier than the ripping technique. Please explain.

CSS and Macrovision encryptions/protections on DVDs are far more than simply "setting a copy protection flag" is why you must first decrypt ("rip") the DVD...
