Default Overlaying tracks in Virtualdub

Is it possible to put a track containing animated text on transparent background onto an existing video clip using Vdub? Can the overlay track be an avi or does it have to be a series of tga images? In case of tga images are there tools that simplify the use of tga images? Help from forum members will be greatly appreciated.

But IMO it would be much easier to use some NLE,like Ulead Video Studio.
