"how do i join the films together and put it on a dvd-r " If you say that uve used tmpgenc before, than you must know that you dont simply "put" a divx file on a cd-r (or dvd-r in your case). To join the movie, use virtualdub (make sure that both avi files have the same video ratio, although they probably do since its the same movie) and use tmpgenc to convert the file to .mpg format (vcd or svcd). But make sure your standalone dvd is able to play dvd-vcd/svcd's because its not the same thing as a vcd/svcd. The compatibility list for dvd players is here <--check what your dvd player is able to play.
