Default DivX 5.0 scrambled encode

I am a newbie, and divx5 pro is the first encoder I've used, so I'm probably missing something obvious. Here's the problem:

Working with a vob input, all encoded output produces pixelated garbage. That is, after every keyframe, the screen begins filling with blocky pixelated junk until the next keyframe. I've tried this with every variation of options in the divx5 dialog, makes no difference. I've encoded through DVD2AVI and Flask - no difference. Ditto for players. And it doesn't appear to be a decoding prob with 5.0, as it runs the dixv vids I already have just fine.

Is anyone else having this prob, or am I missing something? Thanks for any knowlegeable help.

With DVD2AVI I'm just loading up the vob, checking to demux the AC3, and Saving to avi. That brings up compression box, so I'm choosing DivX5.0 Pro (it's registered), and going into the 5.0 options. I've tried every combination of options there to try to find the culprit, but they don't seem to be related to the output prob. It's bizarre, because I just uninstalled and went back to divx 3.11 - produces normal output.

I'd like to make 5.0 work, because its VBR seems to do the same job as Nandub SBC does (if I'm reading on that right).

You should only frameserve with DVD2AVI and use other encoding tools, like Virtualdub or Nandub. You can't set many options in DVD2AVI.

I have not personally done any encoding using 5.0, but it looks almost just like 4.x, but souped up.

Also, if you're looking to do VBR encoding, 4.x can do that too in its 2-pass mode.

You're not using a cracked Pro copy are you? Cause if you are, that's what you get.

Just reinstall a legit copy and it should be good again.

Well, a couple of days ago I was using a cracked version of DivX 5 Pro and was having the same problem you described. I downloaded the version with ads and it works just fine... As someone said here, DivX 4.xx can encode with VBR. I encoded a clip using DivX 4.xx in 2-pass mode and then again using DivX 5, the file size was the same, and the quality was the same too (I used the same settings and didn't use any of DivX 5 new features)...

Well I said it was registered, I didn't say it was registered by me .

I'll give the ad version a try.

That's interesting. But nah. I'm sticking to 3.11a and 4.12 until all bugs associated with DivX5 has been sorted out.

Yep, there are cracks out for it, I got it but I wouldn't use it any way cause DIVX 5 sucks, I only use the original and best, DIVX 3.11alpha, you can do most things with it at ease!
