Default Everybody Vote : Permanent or Non-Permanent Subtitles ?

The title says it all...

Those of you who *DO* create subtitles for your movies, do you prefer to encode them Permanently on the picture or do you create Non-Permanent\Removable subtitles ?

Your vote will be appreciated.

I prefer removable subtitles.

The reason is simple, quality.

Permanent subtitles will decrease the compressability by 2-3% (If I recall correctly, it might be a bit more). And unless you are at maximum quality you will get visible blurring around the subtitles.

Permanent subs should only be used if you can't use external subtitles.

I will most probably be doing removable subs from now on, however what bugs me most is that removable subtitles will most probably not be compatible with future standalone DivX players and furthermore I will need to carry with me the DirectVobSub installation file in case I want to see my movies on a friend's computer or any other computer without DirectVobSub.

P.S. : EVERYONE, don't forget to vote for the poll !!!

The only time I use subtitles is when the movie is not in english and since I only know english if I want to understand what going on then I will always need them. Therefore permanent subtitles for me.

And the fact that not every player can display non-permanent subs is another factor for me.

I would have voted for separate subtitles if only I was not dealing with multiple AVI files (each requiring a subtitle script of their own) on 1 disc. It would have been too much trouble to have that many files on one disc and worse, to instruct anyone borrowing my discs on how to enable the subtitles (I can already see their brow creasing). Otherwise, separate subtitles are always good.

I encode with permanent subtitles because its what i know how to do, and I'm to lazy to figure out how to do it non permanent. Not to mention permanent subtitles means one less file to get currupted or lost or whatever. I can see the appeal of using non permanent subtitles, especialy if you want to use the video for something else such as a music video or whatever.

I would say both, because if you make DivX, I like to have them Removable because I make Menu's and extra features with the MicroDVD player.

But for SVCD's there aren't many Standalone DVD players that can use removeable subtitles so there I would use permenant, so it depends.
