you can convert to ac3, but you will still be stuck with 2 channels.

many programs can convert to ac3, such as "besweet" (i also suggest you get the tool "belight" to make it easier to use). software and guides can be found at http://www.doom9.org

In reality you can't put info into a audio/video file that isn't there. You can use belight (as stated above) to convert to 5.1 but it won't be a true 5.1 audio.

like i said, is there any reason you would want to make 6 channels? it is IMPOSSIBLE to make a TRUE 6 audio channel file with a 2-channel source...

look at this page:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.ph...ght=stereo+5.1
there is a guide that show how u make 6 ch audio out of 2 ch, but the thing is its make the new file much larger than the old file, and it may not fit on a 700MB cd

use virtualdubmod to demux (split) the audio stream from the avi file. encode that audio file to ac3. then mux (join) the audio back to the avi file with virtualdubmod

guide to "virtualdub procedures" here: http://www.doom9.org , incase you are not familiar with it...
