Default qpel

hi there, have a movie thats encoded with qpel, is there a way to convert it to a different avi codec. thanx in advance.

yes, there is. use 'virualdubmod', or 'gordian knot' to do re-encode the video without qpel. check out the 'dvd-->xvid/divx' guides at http://www.divx-digest.com

note that you can skip some steps at the beginning, as your source is already avi

If you use Virtualdub (my choice) use "direct stream copy" in the audio tab and use "fast recompress" in the video tab. Don't use "full processing mode" for video unless you absolutely have to ie to apply filters.

Virtualdub works in the rgb mode so no need to do a full process converting the video back and forth. IMO it's questionable if the video does suffer some quality loss or not. Maybe my eyes.

well, every encode will result in some quality loss. i pretty much always notice, especially when watching on this lcd montior...
