thanx for keeping us up2date, stax!

Quote:

  • new: Null Encoder to remux a already encoded project.
  • new: Auto Compressibility Check option.

Since nobody but UncasMS and me posted I would like to stress that I'm using this thread to support StaxRip so if anybody has a problem, suggestion, request or so I'd be happy to hear from you.

Tommi

stax 26 Dec 2005 11:01 PM

Hi Tommi,
it's a little bit problematic as it don't has has a command line interface. Doesn't ProjectX work for you? Works great here.

TOMMI13 26 Dec 2005 11:40 PM

StaxRip -> ProjectX -> Status

0.9.1.7 -> 0.81.7 -> OK
0.9.1.7 -> 0.90.1 -> FAILED

While Using PX 0.81.7 and confirming to use "wrong" Version of PX,
StaxRip will use PX. I am testing now converting mpg to DivX with cutting etc.

stax 28 Dec 2005 11:14 AM

0.90.1 is the supported version and thus works here. I'm using it for mpg's capture with DVBViewer but other DVB captures should work as well. It's possible that 0.90.1 failes on your stream because of some bug.

UncasMS 30 Dec 2005 01:55 AM

i have used 0917 recently and converted starwars3 using xvid, divx6 and h264

being a long-time user and supporter of stax former tool DVX i must say this new tool has become even simpler and extremely easy to use

missing components were downloaded and installed more or less automatically, target size was absolutely fine and user defined settings came very handy

nice new project, stax!

stax 30 Dec 2005 02:16 AM

Great to hear it works, still many novice users have lot's of problems but I'm working on making it much more easy.

UncasMS 30 Dec 2005 02:19 AM

you know i had severe problems with earlier builds - we talked about it

but this release worked fine for me

stax 2 Jan 2006 12:30 AM

Happy new year to everybody :)

First release this year is a urgent bug fix release.

0.9.1.8 (2006-01-01)

Quote:

  • fix: fixed bug in settings dialog and maybe other TreeView based dialogs causing a crash on some systems.
  • new: experimental/beta new x264 encoder.

tomm2cool 3 Jan 2006 11:29 PM

Hey stax, Im having a problem re-encoding an XVID movie file in order to play as a data file on my Phillips DVP-642 stand alone dvd player. (Im using StaxRip 0.9.1.7 by the way)

The reason I am trying to re-encode, is the fact that the original movie file used GMC and the DVP-642 does not support GMC or QPEL.

I used all the default settings for StaxRip to re-encode the file. The new file now plays on my DVP-642. The quality is excellent, but so far, a few scences have frames that are moving very slow and actually pause for a moment. Is there any setting that I should be using in order to avoid the frame skipping and pausing that has occured?

Also, I tried using StaxRip 0.9.1.8, but when I try to open the file, Windows tells me that it has encountered a problem and that it needs to close the application. Anything Im doing wrong?

By the way, this program seems to be the best encoding software Ive used so far. (Especially since I am a big encoding boob. :D) Hope I can get this problem solved. Thanks in advance for any help given. :)

UncasMS 4 Jan 2006 05:25 AM

maybe this *glitch* is inevitable but maybe you might want to try another testrun WITHOUT packed bitstream option set (which is ON by default)

dont get me wrong, but you're making me curious - can we ask you for a proof by e.g. providing a picture :angeldev2

Tried it without the packed bitstream option set, but still no good. :( I might have to buy a new pack of CD-Rs soon if I keep making this many coasters. :P

Any other suggestions?

Oh and I would provide a pic, but it might be too racey for this forum. :bglaugh2:

It's hard to tell, if StaxRip don't offer sending a bug report when crashing then it's weird and much of a problem since I have no debug information. I can only help if you can find a way for me to reproduce it.

0.9.1.9 (2006-01-05)

Quote:

  • fix: Fixed crash using second audio track only.
  • fix: Warning and refusing opening files with unicode name as it's not supported by some applications e.g. DGIndex.
  • fix: It's no longer possible to ignore crucial assistant instructions and warnings.
  • new: Enabled MP4 and MKV input for the MKV muxer, can be used with x264 and fixes also a bug.
  • new: x264 quality mode (--qrf).
  • change: Updated to x264 395 wich fixes also incompatibility bugs.
  • change: Added delay handling to audio profiles since it's better to use the encoder instead of the muxer to handle delay.
  • change: Only audio files are picked up when opening a source file that are supported by the audio profile.
  • change: Legacy x264 encoder removed.
  • change: x264 encoder command line preview includes now all file paths.

Thomas_AR 7 Jan 2006 02:44 AM

Does StaxRip supports ffdshow for encoding to XviD?

stax 7 Jan 2006 03:13 AM

There is no GUI yet but there is rich command line support. In the encoder profiles you can create a command line encoder.

Thomas_AR 7 Jan 2006 03:28 AM

ok, will give it a try. Would be nice to implement a GUI for ffdshow encoding. Perhaps version 2.x :). Mor important things to implement i can imagine.

stax 7 Jan 2006 09:49 AM

0.9.2.0 (2006-01-07)

Quote:

  • new: Full controls over x264 turbo switches.
  • new: Additional x264 CLI switches that don't have GUI controls yet can be added.

ajp 9 Jan 2006 12:56 PM

I just downloaded this from your site and when I unpack and try to open it I get an error and it closes.

anonymez 9 Jan 2006 01:16 PM

make sure you have ".NET Framework 2.0" installed, get it from http://www.microsoft.com

ajp 9 Jan 2006 01:43 PM

i downloaded .net from the link on stax page. I would post the error log but I can't highlite and copy it.

stax 9 Jan 2006 07:53 PM

@ajp

What about making a screenshot, press Win+Print, paste into a graphics application, save a JPG file and upload it to rapidshare or imageshack.

ajp 9 Jan 2006 11:24 PM

Here you go.

http://server2.ihostphotos.com/imgt/61788.jpg

stax 9 Jan 2006 11:55 PM

Thanks for making the screenshot. Never saw this error dialog before, the theming I see is already something that could cause problems, how did you do that? It's not something included with WinXP by default. Maybe you can tell me everything distinctive from a normal PC like simple fresh WinXP SP2 with normal AthlonXP Penthium IV CPU. Everything that is a little bit out of the norm could be the reason. In order to fix it I have to be able to reproduce it.

ajp 10 Jan 2006 12:12 AM

I have used the neowin theme patcher. http://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=23207 and a vista style theme. It would be similar to changing any theme in xp. This just changes the look.

I am using an AMD 3200+ (sempron)

stax 10 Jan 2006 12:55 AM

Thanks, maybe you can try the default Lua theme, reboot and try if it works then.

stax 10 Jan 2006 02:59 AM

After posting to the usenet I found out something crucial about the startup problem.

ajp 10 Jan 2006 03:04 AM

I will give that a try tonight when I get home

stax 10 Jan 2006 05:22 AM

0.9.2.1 (2006-01-09)

Quote:

  • update: XviD 1.1.0
  • fix: Fixed bug happening while StaxRip starts.

ajp 10 Jan 2006 09:43 AM

The new version works just fine for me using a non xp skin.

Thanks for the fast fix.

stax 10 Jan 2006 10:09 AM

That's great, now I can continue with adding useful features, thanks for your help.

ajp 10 Jan 2006 12:33 PM

So what was the problem?

stax 10 Jan 2006 10:25 PM

The problem was probably you did use a DivX version older than 6.0.3. I posted it to the usenet C# group and a developer quickly spotted the problem using the debugger.

I found however the reason why only the native error dialog was shown instead of StaxRip catching the error and asking to send a bug report which includes detailed debug information making it very easy to fix a bug next time.
