Question-2 What's the best deinterlace fiilter?

Hi guys! This is my second message in this forum, and my very first in this section, which I think is a very useful resource for informations, thanks to all of you experts. I myself have started doing rippings and encodings, and as all newbies I started with Flask. Alas, even if I am one of the lucky ones without any kind of serious problem with that piece of software, I find it terribly SLOW. And it's not a great thing to wait four to six hours to get a couple of screwed frames at the end of the movie... I am starting to explore GordianKnot... more precisely, I frameserve with the help of Gordianknot to VDub and then do the encoding. I was wondering, however, how good Avisynth is at deinterlacing, I tried a few comparative small movies, but honestly I haven't seen such a big difference. Note that I am not that picky, I only want to have as few ghosting problems as possible, and possibly a picture that is not too blurred. I am used to Flask's Interpolate which IMVHO is quite detailed but glittering, and I have read it should be caused by bob deinterlacing if I am correct. SO, to sum it up, what is the deinterlace filter you guys think is best? GK/VD proved to be very speedy, so I'd like to dump SlugMpeg for it, but first I need to know about this topic.
Besides... (me sorry) I mainly use PAL movies, so I haven't 3:2 pulldown problems to cope with. And I have read Nicky's guide about deinterlacing, but to hear just one bell maybe isn't enough.

Still there?? Still awake? Well, any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot at least for having read.

C U

I use TMPGEnc's Inverse Telecine. This rules out the use of GK and hence you need to use vFAPI, which can read .tpr (TMPGEnc Project) files.

@Ashtar

Try Smartdeinterlace if you want to use AviSynth. Smartdeinterlace is a VDub filter and can be downloaded from http://sauron.mordor.net/dgraft/smart.html

and copy the vdf-file to "virtual_dub\plugins".

Download the collection of scripts of VDub filters (vdub_filters_v12.zip) which can be found on

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=23804

Open the avs-file in a text-editor and read the first couple of remarks. After that search for the function "VD_SmartDeinterlace".

example 1 (blending frames):

VD_SmartDeinterlace("frame","luma",false,true,false,false,15,100)

example 2 (interpolating frames):

VD_SmartDeinterlace("frame","luma",false,false,true,false,15,100)

example 3 (blending fields):

VD_SmartDeinterlace("field","luma",false,true,false,false,15,100)

etc.

Try which one gives the best results for you.

A faster idea would be to use Decomb. It is an AVISynth filter written by the author of SmartDeinterlacer (from the above post). Decomb
A good guide on how to use it is here . Hope this helps.

Wow, already three replies! Thanks, folks, I'll give them a try, and I hope to find the best one to use... I told you, I already tried to compare those from Flask and those which come with Avisynth (smart/fast/none), but I didn't see big differences... I'll try again with a different source, and see the results.
Of course, should any problem arise, I'll be back here bugging you

Just a note. Flask has lousy deinterlacing ability.

Yes. I still appreciate its ability to parse .ifo files.
