Default Xvid encoding problems

I have a xvid video here and i want to encode it but i dont know how to use xvid very well so how do i do to encode it with xvid , everytime i try the quality falls a lot. And, is there a way to encode a xvid file to divx?

Excuse me for asking.

But why would you want to do that ?
Xvid and Divx are within a few % of each other quality wise. If you reencode it you are only going to loose quality due to recompression.
