Default Audio out of phase, I think. Please help!

Heyy everyone. I'm new to the forums, but have browsed here in the past and found a lot of useful information. I'm hoping you can all help me again.

I'm a very amateur videographer, I've got my digital Sony Handycam and Pinnacle Studio on my computer for editing. Recently, I recorded a school play in which the sound tech. had me connected to his sound board so that I got the direct audio feed that the audience was hearing through the speakers. It sounded great through my headphones while I was monitoring it, however when I got home, things were different. I didn't know how to describe it, other than to say it was "out of phase". On a stereo setup, it sounds like an alarm clock speaker - no low frequencies. When I went out to the living room with my surround sound setup, it sounds the same but only comes from my rear speakers. It seems like the audio information is all there, but just not being played properly. Again, I don't know all the terms for this, so excuse my ignorance.

What I'm asking here, is are there any tools to reverse this and make the soundtrack sound at least somewhat normal again? I'm producing a DVD of this for the school, and my deadline is approaching quicker than I thought. So any help you pros out there can provide me with would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you in advance!
