Unhappy-2 AVI's - no sound no video

hey guys,
the subject line sums it up. i have several full length avi's... none of which play audio or video. been DL'ing codecs like they're going out of style...

i've read the sticky at the top of the board (thanks UncasMS), and ran Gspot on the avi's. i've attached a screen shot of the report, which basically states that the file length is correct, no video codec needed, and "no audio channels", and files rendered successfully-no errors reported. but no audio channels???

i'm running win XP home, media player 8.0.00.4487.

i'm all codec'd out.... any suggestions would be much appreciated.
thanks.
dog.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you have got yourself a fake AVI file.

Reason: 3fps, uncompressed video (slideshows?) and no audio stream present.

Just so that the individual will have something to "share" across the network and thus allowing him to leech more stuff (Heard KaZaa requires that a user shares a certain amount of data before he is allowed to more downloads).

Exactly. Its called "Participation". The more you share or upload, the less you have to wait in people's queue's when you want to download something. And seeing as pre-releases are very popular....

Also, ive read that video and music producers are starting to share fake files, pretty sad what p2p is coming to, a bunch of mis-titled and fake files.

makes sense. but sad indeed.

not sure if its still true, but i've read that kazaa also doesn't have built-in virus checking on its files, leaving you wide open.
then again, if you DL some v.scan software from them, i guess you'd be ok.

thanks again.
