I do hope you still have the original file

This is a wierd problem and i have never heard it before; that doesn't mean it can't happen, you just proved that

What do you want to do with the file
Play it only on the computer ....................... in that case download an anti-freeze filter
Convert it into (s)vcd to play on a DVD-standalone
In that case you might try to extract the audio from the avi (in Virtual Dub)
Then run AVIDeFreezer on the avi and join the (repaired)avi and the sound back together

Don't know if this will work at all .............. it is just something i would try
The thing i'm concerned about is if you will be able to maintain audio-video synchronisation

Thank you for your help.

Havent tried VirtualDub but will try to xtract the audio.

I will use Nuendo to synch the audio. (If I can get the audio !)

Whats that anti-freeze filter ? Is it the same as AVIDefreezer ?

And yes, I plan to use it on a PC.

Thanx

from the developpers site:
Background
Sometimes video clips contain invalid frames that cause Media Player to freeze the image. Theoretically player should recover from the problem, but it doesn't. So image is freezed permanently until clip position is manually changed (by moving position slider). DivX AntiFreeze avoids such freezings.

DivX AntiFreeze can be configurably used for DivX and MS MPEG4 (v1, v2, v3) clips.

NB! DivX AntiFreeze just avoids permanent freezings during playback, it does not fix the clip.
you can find AntiFreeze bij clicking on the link
