Cool-2 DIVx on DVD Standalone

Just wondering; I downloaded a firmware update for my standalone DVD Player; manufacturer says its a newer set of CODECs which should fix certain playback issues...

My friends have similar DVD players which allow you to burn firmware to CD and upgrade the unit...

Anyone know if its been done, or is possible to make a DivX Codec work on DVD hardware - after all most of them (I've looked inside some) are just standard PC hardware slapped together...

Interesting idea

It's been discussed many times, but nothing's been done.
