Default How to play .mpeg on WMP

I am a novice at all this but I produce family slide shows in .mpeg format but when I tried sending them to other family members, their Windows Media Player would not play the file because it said it was missing the codec plugin to do this. How can one play .mpeg files on WMP?

you have to have an mpeg decoder codec installed. As an alternative you/they can d/l and install the excellent free player VLC (videolan)

Since family members might not want to install a new Media Player, (I know my folks are wary of anything that didn't come pre-installed by Dell ), your best bet would probably be to re-encode it as .wmv with Windows Movie Maker, or similar.
