Default Mpeg for broadcasting

I am experemanting with different codecs and video formats for broadcasting video on our local television station where I work. The software works with Windows98 I have found that the system works best with mpeg video or divx but i havent found the best combination of codec, datarate, encoder for making the movie etc. I use premiere from adobe for editing the movie. Does anybody know wich codec and program or pl;ugin i should use.

the codec u will use depends on which quality u want to achieve

u need it for broadcasting? so i think u need good quality
i would recommend using microsoft mpeg4-V1 or V2 codec, it has good quality and good compressing

if u want to place smaller videoclips on homepages u should think of using quicktime or real videos (but quality is just not nice at all)

i couldnt use premiere at all *lol* (maybe i am not able to but no prob for me *g*) so i bought magix video de luxe, it handles all possible video formats, is easy to use, powerful and has nice and easy export options. The only thing is, that when u export avi (for example with mpeg4-v1 or so) it doesnt compress the sound to mp3, but u can easily do this with virtual dub, but this will cause the video file not to work properly with Windows Media Player, but using the "The Playa" included in the DivX Version 4 it is nice.
