Default Need help with conversion of wmv files....

I have captured my video from cam to pc with windows movie maker and the output files are wmv. What can I use to convert to other formats like mp4 or otheres? What format would be recommended? & Can I capture to another format other that wmv to prevent this problem?

depends on what where you want the video to ultimately end up... dvd? pc playback?

IMHO, in the future, please download WinDV which is a completely free program to capture movie from camcorder via firewire with type 1 (iavs) or type 2 (video+audio). By using this, you don't have to worry about quality reduction and you'll be able to encode to different formats such as DivX, XviD, MP4,...later

AFAIK microsoft never supplied us with WMV7 vfw codec. you have 2 options:

1. download & install ffdshow, go start-->programs-->ffdshow-->vfw codec configuration-->decoder and change "wmv1/7" from disabled to "libavcodec". then open as usual with virtualdub

or,

2. download & install avisynth, create a script such as
Code:
directshowsource("c:\path\video.wmv",fps=xx)
where xx is the framerate, and open the script with vdub

Thanks! Got it working with you last post. Will the quality stay the same from original?

depends on the codec-- bitrate & settings

you'll probably want a 2-pass xvid encode

Can Virtualdub-mpeg2 encode to xvid? When I load the file I then "save as AVI" where do I have the option to choose format and bitrate settings?
