Default Why do we pay money for players?

Sorry I had to post this cos I got real irrate at players that aren't exactly good... I just downloaded this player called DivX-Digital Player (see screenshot of attached file).

All right, it's REALUNIQUE... There are only 2 screen sizes: the one in the screenshot and full-screen - duh. Although it's freewaer, You can't even enlarge the screen by dragging the edges. Neither can you use the seek bar to go browse through the movie.

My question is: What in the world happened to good players such as good old media player 6.4, sasami player, etc. Why do people pay money for not-so-ideal players like zoomplayer, crystal player, etc. And why are more freeware becoming shareware? IsoBuster, VCDEasy and others used to be freeware, now we have to PAY to use them.

MY G0d, someone just kick me or something...

Simply because Internet is not like it was few years ago. Bandwidth costs are up and it's almost impossible to find a good free host.

Also, software developers need to eat something It's job like any other so why don't get paid for a hard work?

That's true, but look at people like Avery Lee, Gabest, DVDShrink, DVDDecrypter, Koepi, Nic. They are still providing their software for FREE (maybe they maintain their sites through donations?). The worst thing is, authors of not-so-ideal programs are starting to 'request' registration for a fee. Perhaps they don't realize that the reason why anybody bothered about their work in the first place was due to the fact that it was FREEWARE... and once it started to become popular these authors decided to cash in on the money (if any). It's not as if these players were Photoshop-like with an abundance of features that blows the competition away. The fact of the matter is that most of these freeware-converted-to-shareware programs suck - big time.

Btw I can't mention Radlight cos it's banner is just next to this post...

WildmanJoe, I think you quoted the wrong post, I know that the MPC' "prepare-your-breakfast" feature isn't released yet but in development

My apologies, I thought you meant it couldn't generate the cash to provide breakfast (for a living that is...)
