Default Plasma Vs LCD

Complete neophyte request the opinion of the gods of these forums.

My dad has been asking for a flat screen for as long as they have been around . This year he turns 75 and we are all going in for one big present

We've got about $3000 (USD) to spend.

I'm along time reader of the forums and have always found this to be a virtual Garden of Eden of info for all things Video, so I figure before I spend that kind of money I have to check with the gods of video.

All opions all welcome

Thanks in advance

Now, I used to think that too. But my AV expert tells me that over 42" to go for plasma (Fujistu is good). Note: You may need to purchase separately, a TV tuner and, of course, a DVD player. A screen is just a screen without the inputs.

Under 42", the LCDs seem to reign and brands like Schaub Lorenz and Metz are real good (and have tuners built in).

Me? I'm going thru mid life crisis and so bigger is better. Plasma on a huge screen for me and hang the expense (and the screen).

Regards
