Default Problems Recording to Camcorder

I have a Gateway LX6810-01 desktop running Windows Vista x64, Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 and 8 GB RAM. This system has a 1394 controller on the motherboard. I can send and receive date to an external hard drive OK in asynchronous mode. However, I can only receive or capture video (.avi files) running in isochronous mode. When I try to publish or export to the camcorder or VTR, using either Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, the controller seems to "hang" and no video is recorded. If I turn the motherboard controller off in the BIOS and plug in a known good PCI controller card, everything works OK in both modes!

I have sent this desktop into Gateway for repair three times and they have yet to fix the problem. The only test that they seem to be able to run is in asynchronous mode reading and writing to a DVD burner. I find this hard to believe since sending video to/from a camcorder or VTR is a main data transfer for the IEEE 1394 interface. I don't understand why they do not have a way to test this basic function.

Is there something that I am missing here? My contention is that the motherboard controller is defective and that Gateway should replace it under warranty.

Only have the camera hooked to the 1394 port. Make sure to unhook the HDD.
You raise the blade,
You make the change,
You rearange me till I'm sane.
You lock the door, throw away
the key,
There's someone in my head
and it's not me.
