Default Samsung Camcorder Fails To Install In XP

I'm trying to help an Uncle of mine with his camcorder. He has a Samsung camcorder, model number VP-D-103. This is one that takes DV tapes.

I tried installing it in a PC with Windows XP and the Driver is on the CD-ROM and when I plugged the USB lead in, the speech ballon appeared near the clock about installation and I thought all was going well. As I continued, I was asked to enter the CD-ROM. I did and it started installing the Driver and then this message appeared.

I clicked on STOP Installation of course because I didn't want to mess-up the PC. I tried again and again and the same thing happened. I went into the Control Panel and tried through Add Hardware and still no luck.

Due to the CD-ROM only going as far as Windows XP, I found a Drive at the Samsung web site that of course matches the model number and the Driver at the Samsung web site said "All Windows". I thought Samsung updraded the Driver for Windows Vista as well and when I went to install it it in my Uncle's Windows Vista PC, it seemed to go OK and when I plugged the camcorder in it wasn't detected. Does anyone know what is causing all this. Two PC's with two different Windows and nothing. Most of the time I never get this problem. I must add, my Uncle said the camcorder is about three years old but it should work through Windows XP no problem.

Many thanks.

its just drivers are not logo'ed, no worries, u can always install them, AND if u found any problem related to them u can uninstall them or restore.

but then why do u want to install camera anyway? dv means u just have to use firewire card and use ieee1394 cable to capture video, no drivers need.

im not sure if u can capture correctly using usb for dv cam. u will get lot of frame drops..

Correct. Just click on Continue Anyways. All its telling you is the driver is not WHQL (Spelling). I have lots of drivers that get that message. Will not screw anything up.

Many thanks for the help.

I was aware of the Firewire card part but my Uncle can't afford a Firewire card and I want to see how things might look. Not only that, the PC I've tried installing it in is his daughter's PC with XP. When I tried installing his camcorder in his Vista, nothing works at all because the disc that he has isn't supported with Vista. As I mentioned in my other post, I found a driver on the Samsung web site that says All Windows next to it and I thought it was upgraded for Vista, too and it doesn't work, neither. For all him and I know, he might have a Firewire card already in his Vista PC that came with it.

Many thanks.

I said expensive because when I last bought one, it cost me ú59.99 that's about $120.00. I never looked at the prices for about two years so they must have dropped in price since unless you got a special offer.

Many thanks.

As I said to Atifsh, I paid ú59.99 for mine about two years ago. None were dirt-cheat in PC World back then and PC World can charge a lot for stuff. I bought an expensive Firewire card because I thought the higher the price, the better performance. Mine was under the gold section.

Can you help me find out how to find out if a Laptop has a Firewire card, please?

I feel silly having "expert" under my ID and asking so much about this and other issues. I know a lot on other stuff but we can all come across certain things that we're not sure about.

Many thanks.

Should be listed in Device Manager. Look for IEEE 1394.

Many thanks for the info. By the way, my Uncle that I'm helping found a load of great of info on the Samsung web site about making the XP version Driver working for his Vista. It's some software that has a fee bad enough on the fee side. It looks like trial software where the fee involves buying the registration key to make the convertsion work.

Many thanks again for your info.
