Default Sony Camcorder to HDD to MPEG-1,2,4

Dear All,
I am a newbie to DV world. I recently bought a Sony camcorder. I was able to move my 3 min. vedio from mini-DV to my HDD via Firewire. It's size is staggering 750MB and the format is AVI. Now what I want is some guidance into how can I convert this video to more manageable size something like 30-40MB.

Any pointers are appreciated.

You can use VirtualDubMod and Koepi or Nic XviD codec to compress to XviD format or try the H264 using x264 and meGUI. Check them out from here:

http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml

http://www.x264.nl/

Regards

if it's interlaced (likely) it's best to deinterlace before the encoding process

What program did you use to tranfer video? I have a dcr-hc46 and used windows movie maker to capture but it saves it as wmv file.
