Unhappy Sound/picture not in tune

Hallo,

I do hope someone can help me fix this problem. Please!

When playing back most movies in AVI (I do not encode, just download), the picture lags behind the sound (or is it that the sound runs before the picture?) dramatically. The lag is about 3-5 seconds, more or less.

This doesn't happen to every file. Some do play alright, but the majority really disappoint me, because this inconsistency spoils all the viewing entertainment.

I do not remember having this problem before I installed some codecs (don't remember what exactly) some time ago, so I suspect that might be the reason, but I am really no specialist.. Though I do not think it has to do with the system being too slow or anything..

Please, I look forward to your advice..

The reason why there's async could be that the audio track is not interleaved with video (or it's int.,but with a little delay between audio and video) or the audio codec is mp3 VBR...it happens very often

If it's mp3 VBR u could recompress it to mp3 CBR
If there's no interleaving or a constant delay u can fix it with VirtualDub

If u absolutely don't wanna do any of these things, I suggest u to use windows media player (expecially if u have a slow CPU), sometime it reduces the delay

SS,

thanks for your quick reply.

I am quite sure though that the problem is not with the files. They run ok on other computers I've tried, and besides I download them with Overnet and I don't believe there could be this much screwed up AVIs around..

I looked at VirtualDub, but this software is too complicated for me, creature of the woods, to handle or understand..

And, yes, I have Windows Media Player, both 9 and 6.4, and even The Playa, but this problem persists in all of them.

Might there be another solution?

Elfa.

The audio/video async, whatever is the cause, may depend on the cpu speed, maybe that's why u had no problems with other computers.

So u could change the cpu (........) or simply close all the programs that fulfill the RAM (live antivius, etc.)

If it doesn't work try to update the codec (www.divx.com)

Good luck!
