Default Upscaling

Hi... Thinking of getting a DVD player with upscaling. IfI connect aerial via this and then onward to TV (1020p) via hdmi will it upscale TV signal, or only DVDs ???? Thanks (probably a stupid question )

Most upscaling DVD players, just like most DVD players, won't have an aerial plug. Are you talking about an upscaling DVD recorder? If so, then yes, most of them will upscale the input.

Technically, HDTVs only "display" one resolution, that is the native resolution of the panel. To get all picture to this resolution, the picture is internally scaled, so whatever you feed the TV is already upscaled (or downscaled) to the native resolution before it is shown on screen. However, depending on the TV you have, the scaler may not be as good as the one in dedicated upscaling hardware such as an upscaling DVD recorder.

Default Upscaling

Thanks Admin... I meant DVD recorder/player, sorry.
My LG TV has some sort of 'engine' built in which seems to improve everything already, maybe an addional upscaler wont make any improvement. Just a thought I had.....
Thanks anyway....

It might be worth doing depending how the upscaler handles it. On my cable HD box I set it to "fixed" for video output to the TV and 1080i. On SD digital channels some come in looking very good. The size of the picture on the TV is smaller but you get the higher resolution. Kind of like watching a 20" HD TV picture on a 27" color TV. But if I put it the other way so the image is full size it seems so fuzzy that I just put it right back. Guess the only way to find out is try to see your brands demonstrated together somehow.

(edit: or if the electronics store is close, try it and bring it back if it sucks)
