Default what type of file is required to insert to a movie

I am using a prog called Studio and it wont let me insert some you tube clips i have put them through a prog called format factory to convert to varios file types and tried them all but it still wont accept them is there something i am doing wrong as i have done this before but it keeps telling me wrong format

What's the full name of the software you're trying to load the video files in?

From what I know about this software, it's mainly used to edit camcorder shot footage, so it's not ideally suited to editing digital video files already on your computer. But for compatibility, I would think AVI files using the DV codec, as well as MPEG-1/2 files (as MPG files) would be compatible, so if Format Factory supports these formats, you can try converting to them.

What file format are you trying to output to? DVD? Or back to YouTube? YouTube has its own video editor if all you want is to upload the edited video back to YouTube - it's not very advanced, but for simple trims and cuts, and some effects, it works:
