Default wmv 8 or divx

I have suceesfully backed up movies to divx abut 200 times what I need to know is should I convert to wmv8 in the future for better quality

I am using xp and will try the wmv addon for flask the only problem with this is that there is no option for wmv8 only wmv7.

I have tried wm8 encoding utility with the gui but when i open the vfapi avi to encode to wmv8 the command prompt appears saying windows media encoder utility progress but then nothing happens.

please help.

p.s should I stick with divx or is wmv8 better for 1 cd movies

The WMV8 utility accepts audio only in uncompressed 16 bit format - PCM WAV or WMA. I feel fairly safe in speculating that your files have MP3 or AC3 sound.
