Default Virtualdub Audio sync skew

I want to sync audio & video of an xvid file, but I don't know what the value of preload should be?
I converted the video from wmv to xvid (w/ another prog. of course, since vdub can't read wmv), so the video bitrate is different now. Bringing the whole old audio file to put here is not suitable.
Delaying just to correct the sync if the audio is too early or too late.
I would appreciate if someone shows me how to deal with the preload value.

If the audio format is .MP3, try a preload of 500ms.

A) If the difference between audio and video is constant throughout the video:

Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio" (VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream list") to "Direct Stream Copy".
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving" (For VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then select "Interleaving")
Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of milleseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay audio track by"
Save with a new filename

B) If the difference increases as the movie plays:

From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Framerate" - and select "Change so video and audio durations match"

Let us know of your success ;>}

My case is situation B, and I fail to do that.
After the conversion, some parts have too early audio and some have too late audio

"After the conversion, some parts have too early audio and some have too late audio"

If you think it's worth the trouble, you can always split it into pieces and apply B) to each of the pieces accordingly...

Anyway, if I want to convert wmv file, is using graphedit a must in order to get virtualdub open it?
