Question-2 MPEG 1 timecode problem

I recently downloaded an MPEG 1 from from a filesharing network. The filesize is 130Mb and has a resolution of 352x240. I would assume from its large size that the duration would run for around 50 to 60 mins, but when i open the file in Windows Media Player it plays for around 2 mins. If I click on the time bar thing and say fast forward it from 30secs to 1 minute 30 then the last 30 seconds that play are from somewhere toward the end of the video. If I then jump around places within the 2 minute time bar I can see parts from a video that is obviously much larger than the 2 minutes that media player is telling me it is. I don't really know too much about how MPEG works but it seems to me as if there is something wrong with the timecode of the file.

So I loaded the file into TMPGenc to see if it could re-encode the file with the full duration, but TMPGenc only finds about 2700 frames.

After reading a bit in these forums I downloaded VirtualDubMod 1.5 and opened the file in that. It was able to find just over 9000 frames. This is an improvement but it is still not the entire duration of the video.

Has anyone ever come across this problem? If so does anyone know a solution?

Thank you in advance to anyone that helps.

"I recently downloaded an MPEG 1 from from a filesharing network."

Unfortunately, this is frequently "the price you pay" for downloading someone else's work effort...
