Post donate, ads or others

Hi,

Looking at publishing a website which will contain downloads of small programs i have created simple stuff like convertor calculators and alike. I'm considering whether it is worth adding a donate button or paid ads to the site to generate some income.

I'm not looking at making a business out of this as although i've been programming for a few years these will be the first programs published to the general public and are not ground breaking. But if i could generate any income be it ú1 upwards i'm thinking why not? Any thoughts on this as i also want to avoid the site looking cheap with ads or donate buttons pasted all over the place.
