Default dual layer disc compatibility

if I were use nero to burn 8gigs of video to a dual layer disc, would it still be compatible with standard dvd set-top boxes?

You will need to see if your drive supports it. Check here.

Also, your recorder should support bitsetting, if so you'll want to set the book-type to DVD-ROM. For what it's worth my Pioneer DVR will not read a dual layer +R but my Sony and the POS Apex does.

Good advice Cam. One more thing - to lower the chances of bad burns and compatibility, get Verbatims +R DLs.

Dang, for my player the compatability list shows dvd-dl as ?, and the dl burner I just ordered isn't even in the system

Don't sweat it Merick - buy one and see. My high end player says it won't play em either, but it does!

A well burned DL+R with the bitsetting to DVD ROM is the closest thing to a commerical DVD in reflectivity. Give it a go, mate!
