Lightbulb Creating Audio and Video Codecs

Where can I learn how to create my own video codec? (or hack someone else's)
What software will I need?

Yes I realize there are already enough of them

Dowload the source code for an open source codec.

Huffyuv is open source, you should be able to find that, easy.

Of course you will need a complier, to compile the source code, huffyuv and most other codecs are build using MSVC, so you will need that.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.
