I only use Procoder 2 now. Horrifically expensive, but incredibly good and versatile.

Of the free ones, I think HCEnc is tremendous.

CCE is fine for higher BR stuff - it lacks a bit on the lower BR encodes (many might disagree with me). It is fast though and quite reasonably priced.

I know BR7 uses AQM, so he will have an opinion on that one. Plus I am sure there are many happy Quenc users around.

Regards

AQE is great for low bitrate stuff just make sure you enable qmatop in it's settings and set passes to 4 it wont do 4 passes all the time it's smart enough to know when more then two passes are needed .You can have a look at the great job it did with King Kong and this was with out filters LINK

I second that, I use AQM for anything less than 2k as avg BR and HCenc for anything above it.

If I were to pay for one, I would go with Procoder2. Out of the free ones, HCenc and AQE. Though I've never even tried Quenc.

I employ Procoder2 exclusively. Works flawlessly with Rebuilder.

Of the free encoders, I used HCenc previous to Canopus. Very stable, reliable coder.
