Smile HC Encoder version 0.20 (22-Feb-2007)

Quote:
The developer Hank315 has today released a significant update to the famous HC Encoder. HC is a very high quality freeware MPEG-2 encoder that can challenge any commercial alternative in terms of speed and quality. Use it with DVD ReBuilder to make amazing quality DVD backups! The new version comes with support for HD resolutions up to 1920x1152, updated GUI, speed improvements for SSE2 compatible processors and a few other improvements.

A quick non scientifique test of "Blade Runner director's cut " movie only HC "fastest " Phase 2 encoding showed 67 mins for HC 19 vs 52 mins for HC 20 running with Opteron 170 @2,5GHz .
The improvement is very impressive indeed

No doubt people will test it with "sterner" examples, but all the same, Hank is to be congratulated if he had managed to maintain the quality with a significant improvement in speed.

HC020 supports the latest dgmpgdec149b14 release (fileversion 16).
Also the older fileversion 15 is supported.

About speed, an example:
Matrix3, PAL, movie only, normal profile, CPU Intel E660:
encoding time 31 min using DVD-RB PRO (multiple instances).

Adaptive matrix feature looks interesting

Code:

*ADAPTIVEMATRIX
parameter
- type -
Status
not required
Default
-
Example
*ADAPTIVEMATRIX This command activates the code in matrix.dll. Using this command you can change matrices at every GOP. This is meant for very experienced users only !!
See the adaptive matrices section in this manual how to create the dll.
