Well I definitely don't understand the details of this whole thing because of my novice experience. That said I do understand the main point. Your ram wasn't ordinary or even average at the least. I knew there was a reason I didn't see it on the benchmark. Thnx for killing my curiosity. Like DOC mentioned. Nothing ventured nothing learned.

yeah I bet, especially after reading one of the earlier posts about intel burning so quick and that's at the more slower speeds.

I don't use any real time protection beyond that provided by sd helper in spybot and immunizng(host file)

I am behind a nat in a router and leave windows firewall on and keep a close eye on exceptions

Decided to learn a little more about computer security here

Do you have the exception box automatically checked on windows firewall? Also it will work w/my Avira correct?

firewall without exceptions would be like pulling the internet cable

windows firewall works with everything even malware

malware is pretty smart, it's hooking onto legitimate processes or even substituting it's own version, blowing thru all firewalls and av detection

Windows Security Center doesn't have to be turned on for firewall to work does it? I don't see any icon in the bottom tray or anything but when I go directly to windows firewall it shows its on. Thnx.

the security center just nags you about firewall and av and autoupdates

the important thing to watch with windows firewall is what exceptions it's granting

I kinda thought that was the case. Guess I'm going to have to just monitor firewall more closely and frequently. Thnx.

Hi Chewy. This guide is old. It still seems to touch on most basics but I'm stuck on whether or not to hit the fix button on my spybot app. concerning windows security center. It came up as a red entry meaning spybot's saying it's malware. I have it disabled like I mentioned. Firewall is on though. Spybot tells me it's off and blah, blah about it maybe being security risk. The guide says red is automatically checked for removal by Spybot as malware. Any suggestions?

EVEREST Home Edition not supported anymore.

Hi just figured I post this just in case anyone used EVEREST and didn't know it was not going to be supported by Lavalys anymore as freeware. Found the notice in google when looking 4 it today.

Ok. Just saw the whole article and it was posted Dec 5th 2005. So what's the deal w/it now? Still useful w/out support and upgrades? Looks like it works still being it overclocked and benchmarked my E310.
