    New Hardware Found On Boot...

    Hi all,

I keep getting the "New Hardware Found On Boot..." message when I start the pc, & can't seem to get rid of it. I then have an "unknown device" listing in the device manager.

When I remove it, it sees it again upon next boot & we go thru the whole process again.

I recently installed new vid. card, (ATI Radeon 9600/All-in-wonder 2006) so I don't know if that is the issue or not. I followed the instructions for removing the old card/drivers prior to install of new one.

Newest drivers from ATI site are installed. This is the only thing I can think of that would be causing this problem. (Video Card) Any other ideas???

all in wonder might have a capture component that didn't get loaded,
your newest drivers might not have gotten that part?

anony will know more about this

What is anony's actual user name? I would like to view his posts, but when I searched the member list, there are several anony's!

      Thanks!

did you install the catalyst software suite from the cd or use express install?

I did install from the CD; however, I didn't install all components, as I thought they were just extras that I didn't need -

              *Muvee

*RealOne Player Special Edition Optimized for fullscreen.

Do you think that I should install that software as well?

those shouldn't be related to anything hardware wise

does your software see the capture part of the all in one?

I believe you may have hit the nail on the head -

I did a system test using ATI software checker & it found -
capture driver is not loaded nor enumerated by the device mananger
                  Good job, Chewy!

I couldn't see the forest for the trees!

I don't understand why the driver hasn't loaded tho, since I used the driver install disc, & let it do its' thing like it wanted to. (only things I didn't choose to install was the previously mentioned software:

                  *Muvee

*RealOne Player Special Edition Optimized for fullscreen.

                  .......

What do you think? Should I just uninstall/reinstall the card/software?

start back over from scratch and this time be sure and load the catalyst driver, stay away from express install, I have had a lot of the same problems,
especially with downloaded drivers. Not my area of expertiece, first you might even let device manager look on the cd for a driver for the unknown device

remember this in the future, KATZDVD, never ever use the drivers that came with the product. more than likely they are old and have bugs with the hardware they are shipped with (look at the 7800 cards-- major bugs weren't fixed after a few betas and 2 "stable"s. and they were shipped with old drivers) . as Chewy said, head over to http://www.ati.com and get the latest. download & run the catalyst uninstall utility first, reboot, then install new drivers

                        Thanks guys,

Well, I have uninstalled/reinstalled everything, & my vid. card seems to be functioning well now. (whew) What a job! ATI Doesn't make it eay to figure out what exactly to download...I knew it would be a 45 min. + process!

Anyway, everything is looking good, no bad entries in the Dev. Mangler, no hangs, no "bugginess" *yet*. I haven't tried to actually capture w/ it yet, but in the ATI software settings, it is all showing up like it is supposed to be.

Thanks again for your prompt & expert assistance!

                        Regards,
                        KATZDVD
